Gâteau Weekend

Citrus season is almost over, and my lemon tree has never been more generous. This is the cake I always come back to when I have lemons to use, a Gâteau Week-end, a classic French lemon loaf that a pastry chef in New York introduced me to years ago. It looks simple, but the technique is thoughtful and the result is anything but ordinary.
